Just in case anybody's wondering.... Nelson's changes *do* work
under Windows. I managed to grab a bunch of ppm files and
put them together into an animated Gif pretty easily.
The question of a *good* animator that works under both
linux and windows is still open. I use ImageMagick under
linux; but, it requires an X server, so unless you want
to put one of those monsters on your windows machine, you're
out of luck there. But even there, I don't think ImageMagick
will create animated files (like gifs) that can be read by
plugins. It just sucks them all up into memory and then plays
a fast slide show.
