If you can't get Richard Henderson or Anthony Green to solve the
problem (per Alex's suggestion), then I would suggest giving Bruno Haible's
excellent ffcall library a try.

Use --with-ffcalldir to specify the path to the installed location
of ffcall. 

CPPFLAGS=-DUSE_AVCALL ./configure --with-ffcalldir=/something

(I just noticed that the CPPFLAGS bit is needed due to a bug in the
autoconfiguration -- it mistakenly defines USE_FFCALL.)
