problem making swarm 1.4 under redhat 5.2

I just tried to make swarm-1.4 under redhat 5.2,
using gcc version 2.8.1, the tcl/tk that comes out of the box,
everything else out of the box.
I'm doing the make just as I did for swarm-1.3.1, with the
except of using the redhat 5.2 delivered tcl/tk/blt versus
the different version we installed to make 1.3.1 work.

cd /s3/users/swarm/swarm-1.3.1/builds/debug-linux
export SWARMSRCDIR="/s3/users/swarm/swarm-1.3.1"
/s3/users/swarm/swarm-1.3.1/configure \
   --srcdir=$SWARMSRCDIR --with-ffcalldir=/usr/local \
   --prefix=/s3/users/swarm/swarm-1.3.1/debug-linux
make

I guess the ffcalldir is something we installed.

here is what happend well into the make:

I'll start to poke around myself, but maybe someone can tell me:

Is there anything obvious that I did wrong?
Anything I should check out?
(eg gcc version or something?)
