If you want to build Swarm (I suggest you use the RPMS), you should
use gcc 2.95.2, applying the patch at:

  ftp://ftp.swarm.org/pub/swarm/needed-software/diffs/objc.diff

Also, it is a bad idea to use root to experiment with
building things.  The only thing you might need to use root for is to
install RPM dependencies or to make a target directory owned by some user.
