[Swarm-Support] Must swarm be built directly in its source directory ?

I compiled gcc 3.2.2 on cygwin (so I'd have objective C support),
and then tried to build swarm with gcc 3.2.2 (swarm-2002-05-14).

My build fails not finding the file "missing", as follows:

Making all in src
make[2]: Entre dans le répertoire `/myplace/swarm/swarm-2002-05-14/bld/src'
cp -f ../../etc/common.el /myplace/swarm/swarm-2002-05-14/bld/_common.el
TOP_BUILDDIR='/myplace/swarm/swarm-2002-05-14/bld' BUILDDIR='/myplace/swarm/swarm-2002-05-14/bld/src' SWARMSRCDIR='. ./..' missing -batch -f batch-byte-compile /myplace/swarm/swarm-2002-05-14/bld/_common.el
missing: not found
make[2]: *** [/myplace/swarm/swarm-2002-05-14/bld/common.elc] Erreur 127

I wondered if there was a file actually named "missing", and...
 cd ..
 find . -name missing -print

turns up a file named "missing" in the root swarm directory.

Does this mean that swarm can only be built directly in the
source directory ? (I was building it in a subdirectory that
I made called "bld", as witnessed by paths in messages above) ?

If this is not the correct forum for such questions, perhaps
someone could kindly redirect me (eg, I just saw a mention
of a savannah site, and I've not gone there to see if it
has a support list or forums).

Cordially,

Perry
