Thanks for your reply, Marcus.

I am new to Windows XP, so this is a basic question: on a Unix system, I can write a bash script to run swarm apps multiple times in batch mode.

What would be the equivalent means of writing such a script on a Windows system via the DOS command prompt ?

You don't need Cygwin. If you prefer, a normal DOS command prompt will work fine. Just need to have PATH and CLASSPATH and SWARMHOME set..
