Ok. It took me some hours of debuging but I may have finally worked
around this issue. I put a updated deb at:
http://people.debian.org/~mvo/synaptic/

Can you please install it and check if it fixes the problem for you
as well? If so, I'll upload the fixed version into debian/unstable.
