I just did a fresh install of Debian 10 (buster), and installed the gpsd
and gpsd-clients, both version 3.17-7. (Yes, I know: ancient.)
When I run xgps or xgpsspeed, I get:
charles@jhegaala:~$ xgps
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/xgps", line 29, in <module>
import gi
ImportError: No module named gi
charles@jhegaala:~$
The Debian package lists the following dependencies:
Depends: libbluetooth3 (>= 4.91), libc6 (>= 2.27), libdbus-1-3 (>=
1.9.14), libncurses6 (>= 6), libtinfo6 (>= 6), libusb-1.0-0 (>=
2:1.0.8), libgps23 (= 3.17-7), python-gps, python-gtk2, python-cairo,
python:any
Am I missing a dependency?

"When we talk of civilization, we are too apt to limit the meaning of
the word to its mere embellishments, such as arts and sciences; but
the true distinction between it and barbarism is, that the one
presents a state of society under the protection of just and
well-administered law, and the other is left to the chance government
of brute force."
