libtool 2.0 XXX

The "release" branch for libtool 2.0 was created many months ago. 
After that point there was an intense amount of testing and 
development added which had no business occuring on a release branch. 
As far as I know, the oodles of fixes placed on the 2.0 branch are 
also in the development head.

Given recent history, what reasoning/evidence exists that the material 
on the 2.0 branch is more releasable or worthwile than the head 
development version? Should existing 2.0 be aborted in favor of 
starting fresh with the head development version?
