Hi,

Just to correct one point in your description.

I just completed a build of Octave 3.8.2 with gcc-4.9
and most optional dependencies enabled on Mavericks with the latest update of
XCode installed.

I only have java and jit disabled (more for historical reasons than anything
else) I'll eventually try to activate those as well.

So it seams you can activate all dependencies AS LONG AS they are also
compiled with gcc-4.9.
