I've pushed the following change to the bytecode-interpreter branch to add the
Makefile target `check-tree-evaluator`:

Followed-up by the following change to run the test suite with the tree
evaluator in the CI on GitHub:
https://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/17f613a4a843

I left the Makefile target `check` alone, meaning that `make check` runs the
test suite with whatever evaluator is set as the default (which is also
reasonable imho).


Together with the changes by jwe which addressed the actual topic of this
issue, I'm marking this as ready for test.
