Follow-up Comment #6, bug#65153 (group octave):

With @jwe's patch applied on stable, the test case from comment #0 works as
expected. The test case from comment #3 still doesn't, i.e. calling flipud
does not populate the ans variable. 

As for the question about whether this should actually be applied to stable
before the release, I have no opinion since I really don't know how involved
this change is.
