I've started a plugin directory on the devel-opengl branch with some ideas
for that.  (as of last night ~3am-ish).  Anyways, the only thing in there
at the moment is an mpeg widget that seems to work with devel-opengl so
far :)

There's no real stretch to doing this as a lib or even dynamically loaded
plugin *g*.  (actually the second's a little tricky but it sounds like
FUN!)
