Python Gui interface

I am interested in developing a GUI interface for rdiff-backup. I have tried both of the web interfaces and neither one works on a debian based system. Rdiffweb gives a 500 on the next page after the  login and Minarca is not able to find the .deb to do the install. My one question is there an hook in rdiff-backup that is able to show the progress of the backup. I understand that rdiff-backup is not interactive and doesn't need this functionality, but if it is not available, is there anywhere in the program where that information could easily be exposed?

My vision is to provide a first version quickly, that will do local backups and then expand the system to provide almost the complete functionality of rdiff-backup with a graphical interface.  I see the only limitation being an include and an exclude string, not the multiple ordered include and excludes that would be available currently.

I have been using rdiff-backup for quite a few years and don't have any problem with using is in crontab or the command line, but I feel that such a useful piece of software needs to be more accessible to people who are not comfortable using the command line or crontab.
