dead but not locked

My milter keeps dying, and when I run '/etc/init.d/spamass-milter
status', I see thie message:
Spamass-milter is dead but subsys is not locked.
I then have to restart it.
I am using the DAG repository which is version 0.2.0-11. Can anyone tell
me what is going on?
