N:\eval\autoconf-2.49d>make -v
GNU Make version 3.76.1, by Richard Stallman and Roland McGrath.

It's a version of GNU Make ported to OS/2.

I am not aware of a more recent version.

Is it possible to use alternative Make programs? There is a DMAKE 
available...
