Just to clear this up (I'm starting to worry about using too much bandwidth
here), this has never happened.  Your own circuit, after all, has the same
exposure, so you should take ESD precautions to safeguard that.  The Atmel
MCUs have decent ESD protection and the edges of the ICE-Cube, where you
grasp it, have ground plane on both sides.  One other customer was anxious
about this so I made him a custom ICE-Cube with epoxy encapsulation over the
top (it's already on the bottom).
