Ralf,

On August 4, 2006 12:23 PM you wrote:

just next to "Source Code"? I think that is confusing.
There should be just ONE link to the sources.

Maybe you are right. One reason maybe is just a matter of
pride since I still think having the source online as
literate programs is a pretty cool idea and I want people
to be sure to see it. And I do think the whole literate
programming thing is very important to Axiom and we that
we can't really emphasize that too much.

I guessed that this was your thought, but I could only guess that because meanwhile I know a bit about the internals of Axiom.

If you really want to make it obvious that we have a way
to edit a branch, then I think a better place is just a
statement like

"Browse and edit sources online (see below)"

You could make this a link to the bottom of the page.
In the Section "Testing" I would then add a new subsection "Browse and edit sources online". There it should be
described how one can contribute back and how these changes
find their way to Silver and Gold.

All that sounds good to me. Of course one would have to actually
make this work first, I guess. :)

I could edit the AxiomSources page with a prominent link to the literate sources at the top. In fact, you are right, the AxiomSources page should at least give a link to an explanation about what a *pamphlet* is or even contain a few words about pamplets itself.

But you should somehow think about how the modifications could be made in sync with an SVN branch. Or at least explain how that axiom--test--1 is related to at least silver/trunk. I think axiom--test--1 should have ALL the patches of silver/trunk. Is that easily possible to achieve?

Is it possible to write an explanation how to browse and edit the sources and how and when the will be integrated into the Gold release. It should even be said what will happen to modifications that are not approved. Anyway, I would feel better if the sources can only be edited by registed people, but maybe that is not yet an issue.

Bill, on http://wiki.axiom-developer.org/axiom--test--1/src I see

___New Page___ [Create this page]

and a "folder" icon in front of it. So it seems I can create a folder, but not a file. But the text tells me I can create neither. It says, that I can create a page. Hmmmm, I find this confusing. Should there be two buttons to create a file and to create a directory? And it should be written somewhere that in the Wiki context page and pamphlet file is the same.

Oh, and I clicked onto [create this page]. Why does there pop up a password window?

Ralf
