It's true, and as I wrote, I used Emacs 19 for a very long time after
Emacs 20 came out.  From a UI point of view, I'd be perfectly happy with
that.  Unfortunately, it becomes impractical to keep using it forever.
Am I supposed to install my own copy of Emacs on every machine that I
use, instead of using the version provided on the system?  What about
when I have to use other people's machines or accounts?  And there are
bug fixes, and new software packages, are new hardware supported, etc.,
that aren't retrofit to previous versions.

I'm quite thankful for that.  Don't get me wrong---it's not nearly as
bad as it could be.
