Automake has supported DESTDIR since 1.3. Does anybody really use an
older version? Does anybody even use 1.3?

The DESTDIR -vs- change-prefix-at-install-time debate has been gone
over many times. I think basically everything has been said on the
issue. I recommend that people read the archives before rehashing.

Automake will probably continue to support both methods forever
(barring some newly-discovered fundamental flaw with one or the
other). I recommend others do likewise. It doesn't seem difficult.
