Yes, to a point.  This book is not one of the worst length offenders,
such as the Emacs Lisp Reference Manual.  As a result, one can
consider the cost/benefit ratio of what one might need to do to
shorten it a couple of lines.  However, in general, the physically
shorter alternative is the desired version.

Also, at this stage of the game there is no point in questioning or
trying to rearrange large-scale items such as the structure of the
book.  We are now working on the paragraph/sentence level, looking for
reading smoothness, clarity of meaning, good grammar and spelling.
