There were no changes to regexec, only in regcomp. Similar in dfa.c.

I don't understand your comments at all.  What am I missing?

The --with-included-regex issue should be handled as Paul said - with a
test and appropriate doc. We're trying to change the way the world
relates to ranges to be rational.  This won't necessarily be easy.. :-)
