        Is there some reason why you could not consider using an
external PCI card like the Creative Audigy II which truly and genuinely
samples at 96 khz ?   Bought OEM without all the Windoze cruft they are
around $73 in the US....

        Hard to see an obvious reason for sticking just with the
motherboard sound chips...
