I think there was a freetype problem like that once. Never saw that 
since months..

freetype is a depency, but it's likely already installed in any common 
system
art is a dependency, but it's also likely to be already installed (used 
by gnome..)

and that's all. I won't call that "too many dependencies" ... only two. 
And on theses
two, there is a very good chances that at least one of them is already 
installed, if not
both..
