Yes, you could say it, but it doesn't contradict my experience. I believe
back-art has too many dependencies,

freetype is a depency, but it's likely already installed in any common system art is a dependency, but it's also likely to be already installed (used by gnome..)

and that's all. I won't call that "too many dependencies" ... only two. And on theses two, there is a very good chances that at least one of them is already installed, if not
both..

is too unintegrated with X and too
flaky to be the default.

 I think the unintegration is a design problem,
so it would be better to concentrate on adding any missing functionality
to back-xlib.

Sorry, someone already referenced the wiki to me. I thought it was you,
so I was annoyed to be directed there again. It did not work.

what did not work ? getting the tgz from alex's page and make install ??
