well, the dmgs i have made, doesnt require darwinport or a terminal to
install, so...

I make the dmgs out of the goodness of my heart, because i dont do build
of anything, i make darwinports - so, its just a binary of the work i
have dont with darwinports.

I never said there was anything wrong with your dmg's, only that the official link for the Mac release pointed to a darwinports port. That port does require darwinports to be installed as well as XCode/gcc and a terminal window of some kind in order to get a build. This is not part of a standard Mac User's system.

Also, before we continue, I think that darwinports is a great initiative for developers and do-it-yourselfers. Many people have done great work in bringing packages to the Mac platform that would otherwise be unavailable. Unfortunately, this is not geared for the traditional Mac user. I don't think this is an invalid criticism. Since it is called "Darwin" ports and not "Panther" ports I guess you could argue that it doesn't have to.

i had intensions about updating the binaries to the new version of
0.6.10 - i will not do so, and i have removed the dmgs at my opendarwin page.

I do not speak for the dotGNU community. I speak only for myself. It would be a shame if you stopped contributing to dotDNU based on my personal position.

happy hacking, the goals you have are not the same as mine - so, i wish you the best.

Our goals don't really differ in significant ways. I have no problem with your dmg's only where they install to. Other than a different build prefix I don't see where we disagree. This type of problem can be addressed with a few symlinks created in a post-install.

Since this is a community of developers, we need to find ways of bridging our differences. What is good for the Mac platform is generally good for the OpenDarwin platform and vice versa.

If you would like to discuss this further off-list, you can e-mail me directly.

Regardless, I wish you the best of luck.

Oscar.
