My objection against the text:

How to save customizations in a different file.

is not that it is incomplete, but that it is misleading. It suggests
that anybody who is happy with Custom writing into .emacs should just
skip that node. If the paragraph I quoted is unnecessary for people
using .emacs, then it would also be unnecessary for people using
another Custom file.

Also, suggesting that the entire node is about saving in a file other
than .emacs makes a possible source of confusion even worse:

If Emacs was invoked with the `-q' or `--no-init-file' options
(*note Initial Options::), it will not let you save your customizations
in your `~/.emacs' init file. This is because saving customizations
from such a session would wipe out all the other customizations you
might have on your init file.

In a section about saving in a file _other_ than `~/.emacs', the above
paragraph seems to imply that customizing in a different file is a
good way to save customizations, even if you used `emacs -q', because,
if you use `~/.emacs', you can not do it (but if you use another file,
you presumably can).

Sincerely,

Luc.
