Indeed, but only in the 1995 - 1996 or 1997 timeframe, as it was added to a service pack, at the same time that the installer was changed to include networking support by default.

That noone has complained about our change from winsock.dll to ws2.dll three years ago makes me suspect that such old versions of Windows 95 are not a problem we need to worry about. Windows 98 may still be in use, but that definitely comes with ws2 in all installations.
