sorry... you "don't like pain"... how? :-) my DVI and PS viewers all auto update as i update the relevant file. and from within emacs all i need to do is hold in control and type "c b" and the current file gets turned into PS, or "c c" and the whole book appears. i never need to go to a terminal and type make or anything. i can also do cvs commits from within emacs with C-"x v v", amoung many other other great things...
Oh, so "all" I have to do is memorize a seemingly endless list of pseudo-mnemonic key combinations? Brilliant!
With intuitive commands like C-"x v v" (how on /earth/ does one type that?) who would want to resort to arcane commands like "cvs commit?"
But all sarcasm aside, I have made several good faith efforts to learn emacs. The most recent was only a month or so ago. I had command references pasted all over the place. I made little labels for my keyboard keys (I touch-type, hence the unbearably long emails ;-) ). I /wanted/ to like emacs, but it beat me like Caradhras.
