chown root:root /usr/bin/jackstart
chmod +s /usr/bin/jackstart

This is of course only of use to you when fluidsynth has been compiled
with jack support.

You can also start fluidsynth as root which should give you better
timing allready.

I don't know how recent or how well finetuned the debian packages are. I
use debian, too, but i compiled most of the soundstuff [starting with
alsa] from source. so your milage may vary..
