There is several gameplay things that can be improved without much or no code
modification.
For instance, having good maps wrt to latest game dynamics.
The tutorial could also be improved to remove dead-locks.
Another aspect that has not been used at all is units skins customization.
With this, it is possible to do more scenarised campaigns, with elements such
as wild animals. Anyone wants to do some blender ?
