As I said, because depmod was crashing, and I was even getting
differences between some .ko files across separate installs of the
non-medan kernel.

Once I installed the medan kernel, depmod -a works fine. I figured
perhaps it was more stable, or more suitable for the hardware I had, or
some such.

Also, don't assume I know what I'm doing. It's my first week trying to
actually use this machine, and it's my first week actually trying to use
a .deb-based distro :-) I had no idea there was so much truth to the
claims that GNU/Linux distros have diverged so much!

I don't see any failure here :-(

It is providing the one key I thought I'd need. I didn't know whether
any other keys might still be needed, so I asked.

This is a fresh install. The latest debian-archive-keyring was there
all the way from the beginning, even in the D-I initrd image.

Regardless, I tried dist-upgrade yesterday, but it did nothing
whatsoever.
