That never really worked for my -- the sync-tree caused me grief.

I updated the Wiki with an alternative method a while ago (which Matthew
Moy indicates is the same)

$ tla replay --reverse patch--to-be--removed
$ tla commit --out-of-date-ok -s "cancelled patch--to-be--removed"
