I didn't mean to say that public schooling is socialism, simply
parallel the two very government controlled systems (unless by public
schooling you possibly meant to include privately funded schools that
are open to the public).

And, no, I don't think there's anything inherently evil about
socialism.  It's neat and all, just abysmally unsuccessful.
