The GR-601 and GR-601W both use the USB to serial converter. As do all
other USB GPS I have ever seen. The only difference between the two
is that the PPS is connected to the Serial converter only on the W
model.

Looks perfect.

you should have a line that looks like this:

---------------------------- PPS offset 0.0011234 ------

You may need to wait a minute or two to get it.

Another test, go into your gpsd source tree, then into the
contrib directory. Compile and run the ppscheck program.

The output should look like this:

contrib # gcc ppscheck.c -o ppscheck
contrib # ./ppscheck /dev/ttyUSB1

1469654345 869742911 TIOCM_CD
1469654346 787411
1469654346 100749867 TIOCM_CD
1469654347 774397
1469654347 100766398 TIOCM_CD

Forget ntpd for now. gpsmon does not output anything to ntpd.

Step by step, do nnot skip steps!
