Are you familiar with the concept of "mentorship"?  I recommended
you for git access, and I'm teaching you how to do the bugs.  If
you screw up, then that means that I didn't explain something well
enough -- either you tried to do something that I explained badly,
or you tried to do something that you weren't supposed to but I
should have told you not to do.

This wouldn't apply if you were some random user, but I know that
you're intelligent and spend a lot of time and effort on lilypond.
So any problems that arise are clearly due to my vague
instructions.

I confess that I didn't notice Joe's comment about committing it
himself... but I would still never commit such things myself.  If
it's obvious, then somebody like Mats or Rune can apply them.
They have a much better sense of the internal lilypond design than
we do.  Most users won't see the fix anyway until the next devel
version is out, so there's no rush to apply bug-fixing patches.
