ok, good news: I get the same error. I'll work it out and get
back to you, maybe in a few hours but possibly in a few days.

Bit of a follow-up. As I think I said earlier, the "wrong" version number is in aclocal.m4. This is made with the following:

Must remake target `/media/IntelSSD/lilypond/git-gub/gub/target/tools/src/guile-1.8.7/aclocal.m4'. make[1]: Entering directory `/media/IntelSSD/lilypond/git-gub/gub/target/tools/build/guile-1.8.7' CDPATH="${ZSH_VERSION+.}:" && cd /media/IntelSSD/lilypond/git-gub/gub/target/tools/src/guile-1.8.7 && /bin/bash /media/IntelSSD/lilypond/git-gub/gub/target/tools/src/guile-1.8.7/build-aux/missing --run aclocal-1.11 -I m4 Putting child 0x01e08b10 (/media/IntelSSD/lilypond/git-gub/gub/target/tools/src/guile-1.8.7/aclocal.m4) PID 1865 on the chain. Live child 0x01e08b10 (/media/IntelSSD/lilypond/git-gub/gub/target/tools/src/guile-1.8.7/aclocal.m4) PID 1865
Reaping winning child 0x01e08b10 PID 1865
Removing child 0x01e08b10 PID 1865 from chain.
Successfully remade target file `/media/IntelSSD/lilypond/git-gub/gub/target/tools/src/guile-1.8.7/aclocal.m4'.

*/missing appears to simply run aclocal-1.11 (which is an installed program - we deliver 1.10) and this seems to create the aclocal.m4. Can't understand the build system past that, though.
