Remember the quality of the MP3 file will depend on (at least) 2 things:
1. The quality of the soundfont (.sf2) or GUS (Gravis UltraSound) patches.
You need a Soundfont with a GM compatible soundcollection. A good free one
is the "Fluid" soundfont. But there are also others like "Personal Copy
(Lite)". I am using the fantastic but big and not free soundfont
Papelmedia Final SF2 XXL . They stopped support, but you might be able to
still get it for a bargain price.
2. The quality of the wav to mp3 conversion. Most converters have a medium
quality default setting, which should be good enough for many situations.
But you can choose better quality if you dive deeper in the tweakable
options. Or you can choose for a smaller file size, instead of the best
quality.
