Follow-up Comment #20, bug #44565 (project lwip):

Patch rebased and applied. I am very happy with the outcome, this long lasting
issue is solved for me in the cleanest way.

Anyway, I renamed PPP_INPROC_MULTITHREADED to PPP_INPROC_IRQ_SAFE to remove
the confusion we (or at least, I) had, shall we add a compilation error if
defined(PPP_INPROC_MULTITHREADED) in init.c ?

Simon, what do you think about Ivan proposal: "I wonder if we should do the
same with Ethernet packets?" I agree we should.

Maybe we can also remove the useless struct netif input pointer, but if we do
it requires a change in all ports :(
