Maybe a default selection should be based on the local language for
the city mapped ? (The language most street names are in).

We do this when the city is selected by administrative boundary, but
it's much harder to do it based on simply the bounding box coordinates,
so we don't even bother trying to infer an index language when the user
selects an area to map with the slippy map.

But displaying in the map list the language the map was generated with
is a feature I had in my mind for a while, so I'll might just do it over
the week-end.

Is it so difficult to check whether the bounding box would not fall within administrative limits with well defined linguistic properties ?

(i have no idea what it actually implies).

In Chile, for instance, where many low level administrative boundaries are not defined yet, one needs to use bounding box. Yet it could be well known that within Chile, Spanish language would be the most appropriate. (And in this case, the same is true for neighbouring countries, so there is not even the need to be specially careful near the borders :) ).

By the way, was the test for Spanish on dev satisfying ?

Best,

Jean-Guilhem
