the latest directx sdk (aug 2009) is 500+MB isnt 7z able to extract .exe files? i dont think running the exe in wine is the way to go
just tested it, 7z is able to extract it just run:wget http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/C/F/4CFED5F5-B11C-4159-9ADC-E133B7E42E5C/DXSDK_Aug09.exe
7z x -y DXSDK_Aug09.exe the libs are in DXSDK/Lib/x86 and the headers in DXSDK/Include
