Maybe there's a local boost installation with a user-config or
site-config that's interfering? Or you're using something like
colorgcc that doesn't build bjam correctly?

I do have boost installed natively, but I don't believe the RPM installs a site-config or user-config. locate can't find a site-config.jam or a user-config.jam, anyway.

gcc is just gcc:

$ which gcc
/usr/bin/gcc
$ ls -l /usr/bin/gcc
-rwxr-xr-x. 2 root root 271672 Sep 24 15:50 /usr/bin/gcc
$ gcc --version
gcc (GCC) 4.5.1 20100924 (Red Hat 4.5.1-4)
