Another solution could be to add the missing sources only for the
build process, and remove them from the source package. This is
probably against Debian philosophy ...

Free or non-free, that is the question ... From my point of view,
mldonkey is free. The only reason I don't distribute this part of the
sources is to prevent using them against the eDonkey network. There are
no commercial reasons !
