Hello,
Finn Bacall and myself (Emmanuel Tagarira) are interns with the myGrid
team. We have been working on a prototype/strawman for a "shims
library". A shim is used to mediate between two otherwise
incompatible services by converting the output from one workflow
component into a closely related format that the other component will
accept as an input. This library is designed to house all things
shim: beanshells, services, scripts, workflows, etc.
At present, the library runs as a standalone application built with
the intention to elicit user requirements. We hope to integrate this
into BioCatalogue, myExperiment, and the Taverna workbench, sometime
in the future.
The library has been set up and can be accessed via http://shimtest.taverna.org.uk
. Please note that this is by no means a finished product; merely a
device to help obtain some feedback as this is invaluable to us.
Please feel free to test run the application and let us know what you
think. You can browse the catalogue of shims, and track for bugs; if
you register you can add and annotate shims. As this is a prototype,
please be aware that the list of shims available will most likely
change in the event that the project carries forward past this initial
phase. For a full rundown of the features currently in the
application, please visit http://groups.google.com/group/shims-library/web/shims-library-prototype-functionality
.
We are particularly interested in knowing:
- the strong points and the weak points of the system,
- what functionality you think is missing,
- how the existing functionality can be improved,
- how you would like to browse for shims (a generic search, a service
based search, etc),
- the kind of metadata you would find useful on shims,
- how you would like to describe the inputs and outputs of a shim,
- whether the current annotation fields are sufficient; if not, what
fields are missing?
You can provide us with this feedback via the google group for the
Shims Library (http://groups.google.com/group/shims-library) or by
sending an email to address@hidden
Regards,
Emmanuel (Mannie)
