Thanks for putting in the work so far. Note that libcurl4-gnutls-dev should
also work.

I'll take your findings and try to reproduce on my 12.04 VM. I would like to
see the build I have that fails start working if I add only
libcurl4-gnutls-dev, like you've seen. Then try a clean build with absolutely
all dependencies installed except for libcurl4-gnutls-dev and see whether it
fails with that one library taken away.
