Follow-up Comment #7, bug #53539 (project octave):

The shown columns in the file browser can be selected in a context menu after
right mouse click into the header of the file list.

There is a preference for the editor in the settings dialog that allows to
automatically reload changed editor files without prompting. Maybe this might
be a workaround.
