Do the following in a console.
sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install build-dep pan
sudo apt-get install gnome-common git
git clone git://git.gnome.org/pan2
cd pan2
sh autogen.sh --with-gnutls
make -j4
sudo apt-get remove pan
sudo make install
that should do it
