At least on NetBSD, msgfmt is available in the base system and also a
package is present to supply a potentially newer version (currently
gettext-tools-0.19.6). This means of course that by default one gets the
older version.

Yes, if needed, pkgsrc would get some way to handle those lines (either
by removing them, or forcing the use of the packaged version of msgfmt,
or whatever). It's just that I'm building Pan without such niceties (and
apparently I used the older msgfmt version). But it's not a big
practical problem at all.

A bit weird though that the format of those lines wasn't added to the
documentation.
