could that value be a UNIX date as in "date +%s" that gives you the
secodns since 00:00:00, Jan 1, 1970 ? I did not check where and how this
is set, though... :-)

and then, the else brach in datetime() using getbestguess() to set
users_localtime still seems somewhat odd to me...
