I made a small mistake. There are actually four way to encrypt a file:
signed, clearsigned, armoured and symmetric.

In signed encrypted message the end result will be a binary file, thus
not readable in a text-editor. It uses a typical public-key criptography
in order to send the message. This is the default encryption method for
GPG.

In clearsigned messages you will have the file encapsulated by a small
signature. It takes into acount what was written on the message (sort of
like and md5sum of the message) and include that in the signature. That
means you can check if the message has been tampered with with that.
However it only works like our hand-written signature, since everybody
can read the message. Its advantage is that it garantees that the
message is authentic.

In Armoured messages you will have something exctly like a signed
message, except the output in the text (much like uuencoded) message.
Which means you can put it in emails and other places.

In symmetric messages you will have something like the normal
cryptography programs, where you have the same password for encryption
and decryption. But it also means that if you want someone other then
ourself to decrypt the message you will have to agree on the password
beforehand. This is the normal encryption method if you want to add a
password and select yourself as the recipient.
