This is not going to be very helpful, but I can tell you it works for me.

Normally I have that key bound to making a snapshot of the screen[1].
Now I tried actually binding it to "select 2" instead, and that worked
aswell.

Have you double checked it's not a typo or something silly like that?
What exact version or cvs checkout date do you use? My version string
says 1.4.0.CVS.jn.numberbug.20060104-0cos, which means cvs with latest
changes in the changelog dated the fourth this month. It's patched
twice, but I don't think neither the numberbug patch or the JNPatch
should affect anything.
